Help in choosing a plinth: Normally if the base of the statue is round it looks best on columns, if the base of the statue is square - plinths with square tops are better.

Also, of course, make sure the top of the plinth is bigger than the base of the statue you are placing on top. If there is an overhang the piece and plinth may become unstable, also it looks unbalanced
